David, this post is just an advertisement in disguise. I almost rejected it. But the company you represent and the personal experience you've had is of considerable interest to this network.

So tell us something interesting.

What's the founders story? What's the success myth that has created the company you now have?

Or

Tell us about the innovation life cycle as you have experienced it.

Or

Why has your firm, (Established 25 years ago?) decided to put effort into a web site. Why did you decide to call it a "Portal"?

Lots of things we might talk about that would allow us to get to know you any your company. I suggest you join Social Networking Newbies.

Congrats on the website.

Curious, do you ever work with Industrial Designers? Do you use Pro/E in your work hence "proengineerportal?"

I think it's an especially exciting time to be in the medical device arena. Many VC funded start-ups are focusing in the medical/health device space as it is rich with opportunities. The revamp of an aging health care system and need for products that can improve patient experience, simplify and secure record keeping and managing workflow are undoubtedly in very high demand.

As a consultant, how do you feel about long incubation times and the plethora of regulatory hurdles that usually follow innovating in the medical space? Unlike designing for consumer products, medical is often much more involved in my experience so project cycles are years instead of months.

I've been in the fast paced consumer and high tech space helping companies develop innovative product designs for demo as well as mass production. We're more ID focused and define or optimize the product's features, look, feel, and usability. We then collaborate with ME to realize the vision. The best products usually come from a combination of both industrial design and mechanical engineering. Appe is typical but great example of this ID + ME marriage.

Well, anyway, best of luck to you and your firm.

What are you asking here?
After all, this is a forum to discuss innovation and the promotion of the same.

Are you asking about how your site appears to the eye of a trained professional?
I am guessing that English is not the native language of the website designer and the body copy is most certainly written by one attempting to do *proper* search engine optimization.

The site is good but not great.
It wastes too much header space, forcing the prime real estate down below the main hot spots as determined by heat tracking studies.

Too much interest is taken in the layout at the expense of the visitor, forcing small sections with much scrolling needed.

The main page with its expandable sections has over 800 words, which is way too much text.
This dilutes the weight of teh keywords in the text.

Long paragraphs are hard to read and most of the copy could be shortened into easy to read web formats.

Now aren't you glad you posted about your site?
Reg
